    Wreck Of The Scottish Prince

Buddy: Maddie Dive Center: GC Dive Adventures Wildlife: • I saw a cool pufferfish with one eye • We found the bull ray again • A couple of small moray eels • Lots of wobbegongs The vis was a bit pea-soupy but not enough to ruin the dive

Weighting: Weighting and trim were good initially. As I used up air, I got a little floaty, so Jo added 1kg trim weights. I ended up with severe head-down trim after that. Next time, try 7 or 8kg integrated and no trim weights. Skills: I practiced mask clearing 4 times: 2 half-flooded and 2 fully removed. In retrospect, I should have practiced more. While I'm fairly confident I could replace my mask at depth, I'm not confident I could maintain neutral bouyancy while doing so. I practiced reg recovery with two methods: arm sweep and hose tracing. I found out that my primary reg's hose is plugged in behind my alternate reg's hose. I practiced DSMB inflation with both open-bottomed and LP hose inflated DSMBs. I learned that a snap bolt is often used to thread the line back onto the reel. I learned that the LP hose inflated ones really take off like a rocket as soon as you plug them in, so you'd better be ready for it. I learned that the open-bottomed ones can be inflated using breathing exhaust or using the purge button. I learned that they don't have to be inflated all the way, since the gas will expand as it ascends. Other notes: I learned that you should test the regulators' diaphragms for leaks/sticking before pressurising the system. I also learned that if you have a long primary hose, you should tuck the loop under your cumberbund.

Buddy: Maddie DC: GC Dive Adventures The vis was 2-3m and the water was freezing. About 5 minutes after descent, Maddie and I decided to thumb the dive due to the cold, and do a free ascent using my DSMB. The ascent went well and was very cool, although I went up much slower than I could have. As a result we ended up drifting a long way from the boat, which lead to an exhausting surface swim in rough seas.

    Wreck Of The Scottish Prince

Buddy: Harry Dive Center: GC Dive Adventures We ascended early because we were cold. Wildlife: • Swam through a bait ball • Saw tons of wobbegongs • Saw a huge bull ray Skills: Practiced mask clearing, both flooding and full removal. Did very well maintaining my bouyancy, but I still have some initial choking reflex.
