    Holborough Lake

I had a real life dive rescue emergency today. I was attempting to attach my real line to a wreck, Debbie the instructor was watching me closely. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the other trainee Adam Lofts hand signal "out of air". I dropped what I was doing and swam over to him. He didn't show signs of panic, and didnt grab for my alternate air source as one would expect. So I reached down took hold of his contents gauge and when I looked saw the needle on 0. SHIT I thought. I thrust my alternate air to his mouth and then he started breathing from it. We exchanged the signals ok and up, and slowly I inflated my bcd to bring us both up with Debbie closely following. He was ok at the surface but we had a long surface swim back to shore. So I never got my real around a wreck training. Adam was really embarrassed. But we only then found out, it was his first time in open water. We also only then discovered Phil our club instructor is trying to get him up to our sport diver training level, even though he's not yet finished ocean diver training. Debbie was a bit angry, that Phil hadn't briefed her that Adam has never been in the water before. She would have understandably then watched him more closely, and explains why he didn't watch his gauges, may have been breathing heavier than normal and ran out of air early.
