    Manatee Spring

This was a very pretty dive. The water was very clear. Swimming into the spring's current was next to impossible so I grabbed the rocks and pulled my way in. Then my octo flipped over and started free-flowing. The spring is shallow so it was no big deal. Some of the snorkelers came down to play. It kind of made the scuba gear not so special. But I did find three silver-dollar-sized flounder and took some great pictures of them.

    Spearman's Barge

Spearman's Barge is a great place to photograph the sea life. Visibility was good. There were lobsters and eels in every hole. There were schools and schools of fish. I tried to swim with them and they really didn't seem to mind too much. They just moved out of the way. At one point I started getting cold; it was 23C. Right at the end of the dive, I was trying to coax a small green eel out of his hole far enough to snap a picture. But the closer I got, the deeper he went so I started to swim away. Then he popped out again and I got him... on film that is. Jim's computer was telling him he was out of time, so we ascended. Too soon if you ask me.

    Yapak 2

Negative entry blue water descent. Had problems with my right ear, ascended and cleared. Grey reef shark were in the area and we found a couple of them. Toward the end a triggerfish seemed to be playing with me and posed for a picture. On the safety stop, I played with what seemed to be harmless dime-sized jellies, but later my knuckles swelled up a bit. After several opinions and hours of research, the problem with my right ear was self-diagnosed as middle-ear barotrauma. Symptoms of squeaking when my ear cleared and hearing everything through a tin can disapated after a little more than a week.

    Uss Strength

There didn't seem to be too much left of this wreck. Some of the structure was intact, but for the most part it was destroyed. There were jellyfish all over the place and fish were plentiful...walls of them! Visibility was poor, but the water temp made up for it--no wet suit required! After returning to the surface a few other boats showed up. As a result, the anchor lines were crossed and I had to go back down to untangle them. On the trip back up, I skipped a 1-minute stop at 3M so my computer was locked in SOS mode.
