Brule Rd. QuarryAnother trip to the quarry. As I said before, a nice place to dive. Very easy, and relaxing. The water is warm, and the beach is busy. There are a bunch of other divers here today as well. A group of about 12 or so. It looks like a check out dive, all the equipment is coming out of one big trailer. GOOD LUCK GUYS !!! I usually stay around the edges of the quarry, as that’s where the boats are located. However today I came across a shallow ravine strait off the beach. I decided to follow it today. Bruce was game, a little different then just puddling around the boats ,or car. It was a nice little tour. You skim through patches of cold water at about 20’ in the ravine. One of the other divers I was talking to today tells me that the cold patches are where the springs feed the quarry its water. For the most part this is just a nice place to hang out, throw some equipment on and just practice. The water was nice today, mid to low 70s.

The Prince RegentMy second dive of the day is a war of 1812 wreck called"The Prince Regent" Another beginner dive. It sits in about 14-20 feet of water. Not very deep. Again I had some buoyancy issues. I think it had more to do with the shallow depth of the water. I dropped four pounds of weight from earlier, and it seems to have helped. I was fine once I got past about 12 feet.I think for tomorrow,I'll keep the weight off. The dive was a bit clearer than the first, but there is a lot less boat traffic at this site. The visibility was better as well. I saw more fish this time. Bass, Perch, and mud pout. The ship was a bit more spread out, and a bit more varied in depth. It wasn't just laying flat. I enjoyed this more than my first dive. I can't wait until tomorrow!!! with a little luck; I'll be certified by this time tomorrow. Rebecca was my dive buddy again for this dive. I'm sure diving with someone you've come to trust has made it easier.

Horace TaberSaturday July 22. I did my first check out dive of four. Hopefully all will go we'll and I will get my certification. Our first dive is a wreck called the " Horace Taber". The Taber is a small wreck, and its split open on the bottom. It doesn't look like much mor then a bunch of ribs. There is the boiler which is easily seen, and a lot of Zebra mussels. The only other local life I have seen is a few small Bass. For all I know there was more. I was just to busy looking around, while trying not to screw up. I probably just didn't notice them all around me. Visibility wasn't the greatest. Likely because of the weather, compounded by us "newbies" slamming into the bottom. I had a few problems with my buoyancy; I think I'll try dropping a few pounds for tomorrow. I had Rebecca for my buddy, as I did for most of my training. No worries there.

Aloha, Effie MaeEasily the best of our Wreck Dives, and by far the best of our four check out dives. For our third certifying dive we dove a ship called the Aloha. The best preserved wreck I've seen so far. It still looked very much like a ship. Unfortunately Rebecca didn't get to see it with me, she was having trouble clearing her ears so we decided to abort the dive ,and return to the boat.As we were swimming back to the boat Ben And Bridgitte were coming up as well. I guess Bridgitte was having trouble with her ears and mask as well. so rather than all four of us losing our dives they put Ben and I together. We didn't think we;d be going deeper then 40 feet or so today but Ben and I hit about 55 feet. I just don't have enough paper her e to describe how cool it was. The pictures will have to do.
